blamstrain - ensi cd review from ecesis.org/archives/00000249.html

ensi, the newest from blamstrain is now out on m3rck. starting off with acommanding barrage of tough punching beats reminiscent of someconservative download material (conservative in structure, not in sound), ensi is one of those albums that won't take no for an answer. you will listen, you will be drawn in, and you will love every minute of it. and it isn't an all-out attack, the album shifts gears, tearing down to atmospheric blips, back to the rough and tumble, switching to full, lush pads and back again. with and ethos similar to that of gridlock and a sound somewhere inbetween anything that might be considered similar, blamstrain has got it to offer, and i suggest you take them up on it.

More business from Merck in Miami. Up early 2003 with their tasty seven inch piece from Frank & Bill, Gabe’s gaze returns to Scandinavia for his lucky thirteenth release on the label. Blamstrain is one Juho Hietala, droppin the science drops from word go with ‘Process’, a kind of backwards acid disgorges itself, while angelic tones paint a picture of the northern lights in deepest winter, then the bass and drums drop and man this rocks. ‘Batman’ ticks along, massive squelching bass detonations piercing the icy melodic palette, almost characterizing this fine release. Sky sized, almost symphonic keys and sfx, beefed up with the kind of percussive bangers we all hold so dear. We’ve come to expect the highest standards from Merck over the last few years, consistently excellent, listenable albums to return to, and a genuine passion for breaking new artists. Here’s more electronic rocket fuel, from an artist I suspect we’ll be hearing from again. Effortless, seeming, but largely accomplished release.
